Hyderabad, September 26: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has reiterated that the BJP will get the maximum benefit in a separate Telangana state.
Speaking to mediapersons at the party headquarters here on Sunday, Owaisi did not specify whether his party would support the Telangana bill or not if it was introduced in Parliament.
Replying to a query, he asserted that the MIM would abide by the stand taken by the party leadership on the contentious Telangana issue, which was given in writing to the Srikrishna Committee.
Besides, he opposed bandhs or strikes for separate Telangana as it would affect the poor people. The MIM would have no objection if the agitation for the T cause was organised like social activist Anna Hazare’s fast for a strong Lokpal, which did not affect the common man, the MP said.
In its representation to the Srikrishna Committee, the MIM maintained that either Andhra Pradesh should remain a united state or RayalaTelangana state should be formed by merging Telangana and Rayalaseema regions. However, the party is against making Hyderabad a Union Territory.
Answering another query, the MIM leader said he was not at all concerned with the T issue since his party had fought the elections on the plank of welfare of weaker sections. The parties which contested the polls on T issue, are owed an explanation to people, he said.
On the ongoing Sakalajanula Samme of Telangana JAC, Owaisi warned that his party would not keep quiet if any harm was caused to Hajis who start arriving in the city to go on a pilgrimage to Mecca from September 27. “The developments that took place in the last few days show that the youth of Telangana have become frustrated. The rigid attitude of the youth and the tough stance of police may lead to violence. The political parties spearheading the agitation, should stop setting deadlines for creation of separate Telangana state and speak in realistic terms. The state’s bifurcation is not a small issue like cutting a birthday cake. We want the Centre to act on the issue by spelling out its stand,” he said.
