Hyderabad, July 01: The Ministry of Municipal Administration on Wednesday poured water over the hopes of the Standing Committee members who had sought the compulsory presence of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation commissioner Sameer Sharma at all the standing committee meetings.
The Standing Committee members long standing demand that the GHMC Commissioner Sameer Sharma compulsorily attend all the meetings has long been believed to have been made to bring him under their control
Wednesday’s clarification issued by the Municipal Administration Ministry said that the Commissioner was himself a member of the Standing Committee and thus he was free to use his personal discretion and attend the meetings or not.
The clarification further said that the Standing Committee can ask for any other officer to attend the meetings if it so required.
The clarification was addressed to the Commissioner and was issued by Municipal Administration Principal Secretary Pushpa Subrahmanyam vide memo no 12256/Elec-ll/2010-1.
The second meeting of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Standing Committee, held on June 23, had suspended the agenda till certain clarifications were received from the state government over powers of the Mayor, Standing Committee members and the GHMC Commissioner.
