Serious attempt needed to protect heritage buildings of Hyderabad

The Annual Heritage Awards function for the year 2013 was held yesterday at Salarjung Museum. Convenor of AP chapter of INTACH, Mr. Gopalakrishna, Ms. Anuradha Reddy, Mr. Sajjad Shahid and Prof. Faizan Mustafa attended the function.

The speakers applauded the efforts of INTACH for the preservation and protection of Heritage buildings of Hyderabad.

Prof. Faizan Mustafa told that as per the constitution of India, it is the right of citizen to preserve the national heritage. He lamented that we don’t show any interest in preserving our cultural heritage whereas the countries with 100 to 200 years civilization take more interest in preserving their own heritage. They also propagate their heritage in the entire world. He deplored our attitude that on the basis of religion, many heritage buildings are on the verge of ruining.

Mentioning the demolition of Babri Masjid, he said that we have failed to protect this ancient monumental structure. He told that no ruler has any religion because they continue only with the objective of sustaining their rule.

The attempts to destroy the historical monuments associating them to any religion are deplorable. He further told that we should protect our cultural heritage rising above the religious levels. It will be a great service to preserve our ancient history.

Ms. Anuradha Reddy welcomed the guests and the audience. Mr. Sajjad Shahid made introductory remarks. Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Gopalakrishna stressed the need for making serious attempts to protect our historical monuments.

This year’s heritage awards were given to Moula Ali Arch (Kaman) Gosha Mahal Baradari, Hyderabad Public School, The Christ Church Ramkot, the VCCM Birla Council campus and office of the Accountant General of AP.
