Serena ends 2015 season early to prolong career

London, Oct.1 : World number one Serena Williams has announced on Thursday that she will miss the rest of the season in a bid to prolong career.

The American tennis ace said that she was taking a pro-active step by withdrawing from the China Open and the WTA Finals in Singapore in order to properly address her health and give her body time to recover, the Guardian reported.

Serena, who saw her hopes of completing the calendar grand slam ended after the semi-final defeat against Roberta Vinci at the US Open, also admitted that she played injured for most of the season.

The 21-time Grand Slam champion, however, added that she would participate in exhibition matches later this year and that she would continue to focus in order to compete as long as she could.

Serena won three majors this season namely Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon before losing at the Flushing Meadows. (ANI)
