Kareem Nagar: 70-year-old, Venkataiah of Rampur village in Huzoorabad mandal who has been residing in Kareemnagar town doused himself with kerosene and tried to immolate himself, during Prajavani programme at the Collectorate on Monday.
However the home guards standing nearby caught hold of him and took him outside.
When asked about reason behind suicide attempt he said, revenue officers have transferred the patta of his 35 guntas ancestral land in someone else’s name. Venkataiah is said to have made 32 visits to the Prajavani, before resorting to the extreme step.
Prajavani is a public grievance cell, which was conceptualised for the common man to get his problems solved by taking the issue directly to the district collector or senior officials.
