Separatists call 3-day bandh in J&K

Srinagar, july 09: Separatist groups in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday called for a three-day shutdown in the Valley demanding the arrest of those involved in the killing of 20-year-old Israr Ahmad whose body was found on Wednesday.

Violent protests broke out in the city following the recovery of Ahmad’s partly decomposed body at Rainawari. Ahmad had been missing for four days.

As news of Israr’s death spread, protesters took to the streets, chanting slogans and pelting stones at police. The mob also set a couple of police vehicles on fire.

The protests started from Maisuma, Ahmad’s hometown. Protesters alleged that the youth was killed in police custody, an allegation denied by the police.
