Separate testing body needed to conduct exam: Sibal

New Delhi, January 11: HRD Minister Kapil Sibal today said there is a need for having a separate body to conduct university examinations, a step that will give relief to the higher education institutions so that they can concentrate on research.

“Today the universities in the country have a huge number of affiliated colleges. They conduct examinations and make money. The conduct of the examination puts a huge burden and as a result they fail to concentrate on actual things they are supposed to do,” he said at a function to release a book on “Engineering Education in India”.

He later told reporters that universities should be relieved of the affiliated colleges which should operate as separate entities.

There can be a separate body to conduct examinations of these institutes. A part of the money could go to universities which will offer degrees, he said.
