Baghdad, April 05: Nine people have been killed in separate attacks in the Iraqi capital and the country’s restive north while a bombing in the south has left two injured.
Two policemen were killed on Monday in the northern province of Nineveh, Aswat al-Iraq news agency quoted a security source as saying.
Gunmen using guns fitted with silencers killed two policemen near a police checkpoint in al-Seha neighborhood in the western part of the provincial capital of Mosul.
In the city of Kirkuk, an Iraqi soldier and two others were injured later in the day when improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near their patrol in the south of the city.
“An IED blew off tonight against an Iraqi Army patrol…close to al-Rashad township, 35 km to the southwest of Kirkuk, killing a patrol soldier and wounding two others,” Kirkuk police chief Brig. Gen. Sarhad Qader said.
But the deadliest incident occurred in Baghdad when six members of the same family were killed in the late hours of the day.
A group of gunmen broke into a house in Baghdad’s southwestern Bizeilia district on Monday night, killing six people and wounding three others, all members of one family, security sources said on Tuesday.
Reports also said that a bombing attack targeting a police patrol in Iskan district in the capital’s west has wounded three policemen and a civilian who happened to be close to the site of the blast.
In the southern province of Maysan, an IED blast injured two Iraqi civilians in the city of al-Amara, Maysan’s capital, early on Tuesday.
