Mumbai, September 20: Less than 100 points shy of kissing the 20,000-mark again, stock market benchmark Sensex today rallied 311.35 points to a 32-month record high of 19,906.10, as investors flocked to buy blue-chips like RIL, ITC and HDFC.
The other benchmark index Nifty, of the National Stock Exchange, also surged 95.50 points to 5,980.45 points, ending just below the 6,000-point level.
Both the indices closed at their highest levels since January 15, 2008, while in intra-day trade they scaled their record peaks since January 17 of the same year.
Sensex and Nifty had closed at 20,251.09 and 6,074.25 respectively on January 15, 2008. Sensex’s lifetime high was 21,206 on January 10, 2008.
The Sensex hit an intra-day high of 19,927.30 points, while Nifty peaked at 5,989.50 today.
