Sensex rises 73 points on firming overseas trend

Mumbai, February 25: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex rose by over 73 points, or 0.45 per cent, in the opening trade today on fresh capital inflows by foreign funds amid firming trends in global markets.

The 30-share index gained 74.10 points, or 0.45 per cent at 16,320.07 points. Yesterday, it closed down by 30.35 points.

The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty moved up by 21.55 points, or 0.44 per cent to 4,880.15 points.

Marketmen said fresh buying by foreign funds ahead of the economic survey, to be released later today and firming trends on the global stock markets, mainly lifted the mood here.

Among gainers Infosys Technologies was up 0.41 per cent to Rs 2,587.60, Reliance Industries by 0.44 per cent to Rs 981.50, Tata Steel by 0.48 per cent to Rs 570.15, Sterlite Industries by 0.28 per cent to Rs 763.75 and Wipro by 0.
