Sensex rises 153 points in early trade on global cues

Mumbai, April 15: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex rose by over 153 points in early trade on Thursday on fresh capital inflows from foreign funds and strong gains in global markets.

The 30—share index which had lost over 111.18 points in the previous two trading sessions, rose by 153.61 points, or 0.86 per cent to 17,975.57 points.

The wide—based National Stock Exchange’s Nifty moved up by 50.20 points, or 0.94 per cent, to 5,373.15 points.

Brokers said expectations of strong corporate results and better—than—expected consumer spending, mainly buoyed the trading sentiment here.

Among major gainers, Reliance Industries was up 0.61 per cent to Rs. 1,127.60, Reliance Infra 1.31 per cent to Rs. 1,132.30, Tata Consultancy Services 0.74 per cent to Rs. 826, Sterlite Industries 1.37 per cent to Rs 859.10, Hindalco 1.63 per cent to Rs. 180.95, DLF Ltd 2.19 per cent to Rs. 342.85 and Hero Honda by 1.85 per cent to Rs. 2013

Meanwhile, Japan’s Nikkei was up 0.70 per cent, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 0.92 per in the morning trade today. The US Dow Jones Industrial average ended 0.94 per cent higher yesterday.
