Sensex opens 119 points higher

MUMBAI, March 24: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark sensex opened over 119 points higher today on sustained buying by funds in fundamentally strong shares influenced by a firming Asian trend following overnight gains in the US market.

The 30-share barometer, which has gained over 367 points in the past two sessions, added 119.32 points, or 0.65 %, to 18,325.48 in the first few minutes of trade.

In a similar fashion, the wide-based National Stock Exchange Nifty index moved up by 38.95 points, or 0.71 per cent, to 5,519.20.

Meanwhile, Asian market commenced higher following a firm closing in the US market last night.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index was up by 0.59 % and Japan’s Nikkei by 0.22 per cent in early trade today. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.56 % higher in yesterday’s trade.
