Sensex, Nifty jump 1% led by gains in financials

Mumbai: The financial sector led the gains on the major indices — BSE Sensex and Nifty50 — during the Friday afternoon trade, as Asian markets advanced, tracking overnight gains in the US markets.

Finance stocks, which have the highest weightage among all the sectors on BSE, rose 1.24 per cent.

“Markets are up on the news of fresh infusion of capital in public sector banks,” Anuj Gupta of Angel Broking told IANS.

At 2.08 p.m., the S&P BSE Sensex traded 338.59 points or 0.96 per cent higher at 36,145.87 after touching an intra-day high of 36,183.34 and a low of 35,911.99.

The broader, 50-scrip Nifty 50 gained 102.80 points or 0.95 per cent and stood at 10,882.60.

Stock-wise, Sun Pharma gained close to 4 per cent, the most among the 30 stocks on Sensex while Yes Bank, HDFC and Vedanta gained in the range of 1 to 2 per cent.
