Sensex 222 pts up in opening trade

Mumbai, September 27: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex shot up by over 222 points in the opening trade on Monday, on sustained capital inflows from foreign funds driven by firming global markets.

The 30- share index, led by metal, oil and gas, realty and IT stocks, spurted by 222.80 points, or 1.11 per cent to 20,267.98 points.

In likewise manner, the broad-based National Stock Exchange’s Nifty also gained by 0.73 per cent to 6,067.35 points.

The indices’ gains reflect a strong momentum in the broader market on the back of a robust economy outlook and corporate earnings.

Besides, analysts said, firming trend overseas on positive US economic data has also buoyed the trading sentiment at home.

All sect oral indices including metal and oil and gas, were trading in positive zone, registering gains up to 1.05 per cent.
