Ahmedabad, February 17: A senior police officer of the rank of Inspector General (IG) today deposed before a special court hearing the Gulburg Society riot case of 2002 here.
P B Gondia, currently posted as IG in the state CID (crime), was Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone 4, Ahmedabad city during the post-Godhra riots.
He deposed before the designated judge B U Joshi where he described the chain of events that took place on February 28, 2002, where 69 people including ex-MP Ehsan Jaffery were killed during riots in Gulburg society.
Gondia said during the bandh call given by VHP on February 28, 2002, he had made adequate security arrangements in his area.
He was in the Dariyapur area, which is communally sensitive, in the morning when he got information that there was large-scale violence in Naroda area of the city.
