Kolkata, October 22: Foren Singh Sardar, one of the most wanted Maoist leaders and an accused in nine murder cases including that of a police officer and a CPI(M) leader in West Midnapore district, was arrested by the police this morning. “Foren Singh Sardar was arrested from Berati crossing at Bankura-Jhargram border today,” Jhargram”s Superintendent of Police Praveen Tripathi said.
Acting on a tip off, personnel of Barikul and Belpahari police stations raided the area and nabbed him, Tripathi said. “Sardar was wanted in connection with murder of Bandwan police station officer-in-charge Nilmadhab Das in November 2003 and CPI(M) leader Rabindranath Kar and his wife Anandomoyee Kar in January 2006,” he said.
Nilmadhab Das was killed in a landmine blast while Rabindranath, a former Zilla Sabhadhipati of Bankura, and his wife were burnt alive by the Maoists. A resident of a village in Belpahari police station of West Midnapore and an active member of Madan Mahato squad, Sardar had at least 21 cases against him including nine murders, sources in the district police said.
