Ludhiana, September 08: A senior Income Tax official has gone missing since Tuesday evening, police here said.
Additional Commissioner Income Tax Umesh Chander is missing after he was seen in the campus of Punjab Agriculture University last evening where he had gone for a walk, police said.
A 1989 batch Indian Revenue Service officer, Chander, after his posting in Ludhiana from Chandigarh, has been staying in the guest house of the IT department situated in IT Colony Rishi Nagar while others members of his family were still residing in Chandigarh.
He had made last call from his mobile phone yesterday evening and thereafter his phone was switched off, police added.
A search operation was launched by the police this evening to find the IRS officer .
Police Commissioner Ishwar Singh said “we have not came across any evidence which could indicate that it was a case of kidnapping.
