Senior Congress leader suggests talks on MCD split

New Delhi, April 18: As opposition within Congress to the Delhi Government’s move to split MCD gains ground, an AICC general secretary in-charge of Delhi today favoured wider consultation on issue within the party before a final decision is taken.

AICC General Secretary in-charge (Delhi) Birender Singh said there needs to be a “wider consultation” on the issue within the party as a section of the partymen felt splitting the MCD will affect the party in the municipal polls next year.

Singh also met Dikshit and members of the high-level committee that recommended splitting of the civic body.

“I wanted to know the details of the proposed structure. There must be proper consultation within the party before a decision is taken on the issue,” he said.

Singh said he will take views of party MLAs, MPs from the Delhi and DPCC functionaries on the issue.
