Swati Gupta, deputy circle officer at Bharatiya Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in Kota was stabbed to death by her ex-driver Lalchand Mehra, 38, at the main gate of her house last night around 9.30 PM, Station House Officer (SHO), RK Puram police station, Jai Baniwal said. The driver was reportedly angry with the lady officer after she had dismissed him from the job a few months ago, police said adding that accused Mehra has been arrested.
The accused was living on rent with his family in a portion of Gupta’s house and was also working as her car driver, SHO Baniwal said adding the lady officer had dismissed him from the job and asked him to vacate the accommodation.
Last night at around 9.30 PM when the lady officer was about to close the main gate of her house after parking car in porch, the accused driver emerged from the road and stroked multiple stabs of knife into her chest and stomach following which she collapsed on the spot, police said. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared her dead, they added.
The accused has been arrested and being interrogated, police said adding that he has confessed to the crime. The accused has been booked under 302 of IPC and would be produced before the local court today after the interrogation is over, the SHO said. Meanwhile, the dead body has been handed over to the family members after postmortem this morning, he added.
