Senior Andhra Congress leaders agree for bifurcation of Andhra, claims Digvijay

Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Friday said that all senior leaders of Andhra Pradesh Congress committee are going to abide by the decision f the Congress High Command for the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. “When I came here assuming charge of the AP congress committee, I met all the senior leaders of the Andhra Pradesh Congress committee, those from the Telangana region and from Seemandhra,” Singh said. “All of them have said that though they have very strong views on the bifurcation of the state, they would abide by the decision of the Congress High Command,” he said. He said that it was important to recall that there was a near consensus on this decision. The Union Cabinet on Thursday had approved the parliamentary bill for the creation of Telangana with 10 districts. Sushil Kumar Shinde, who read out the Cabinet statement in the national capital, said that the Cabinet approved the recommendations of the Group of Ministers (GoM), set up to look into the issue of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. He said that the Cabinet also approved the draft Reorganization Bill prepared on the basis of the recommendations of GoM. Furthermore, he said, that Telangana would comprise of 10 districts, and the successor state of Andhra Pradesh will comprise of 13 districts, and Hyderabad will be the common capital for both, for a period not exceeding 10 years. He added that the Governor of Telangana would have special responsibility for the security of life, liberty and property of all those who reside in the common capital area and the Governor will be assisted by two advisors to be appointed by the Government.
