Nevada, October 05: Nevada Senator John Ensign who had an affair with a former campaign staffer is being asked to resign, by all and sundry. This plea was even taken up by the host of a Las Vegas talk radio show.
KXNT 840 host Alan Stock, host of “The Morning Source,” which airs before Rush Limbaugh, told listeners this morning Ensign should step down, the station reports.
Sen. Barbara Boxer disclosed to CNN on Sunday that the review has begun.
“I can’t discuss this with you other than to say that there’s a preliminary investigation going on,” Boxer told CNN’s John King. “And we will look at all aspects of this case as we do whenever there’s a case before us and try to get to the bottom of it as quickly as we can in fairness to all.”
The Senate Ethics Committee will investigate to see if John Ensign broke any rules and gave favors to get the husband (Doug Hampton) who was a former top aide, of his mistress Cynthia employment.
“I think the pressure on John Ensign is immense and basically the pressure of the silence of his colleagues. The silence is deafening,” said Republican strategist Steve Wark.
Democratic straightest Dan Hart thinks he should step aside because anytime Senator Ensign is mentioned, there will be a reference to the ethics investigation. “That investigation becomes part of his identity. It definitely reduces his effectiveness,” he said.
