Senate confirms Kelly as President Trump’s secretary of homeland security

Washington: John F. Kelly’s name has been approved by the Senate as President Donald Trump’s secretary of homeland security.

The Senate confirmed Kelly’s name after lawmakers voted 88-11 in favour of Kelly.

Kelly, a retired United States Marine Corps general and the former commander of United States Southern Command will be the in charge of securing the nation’s borders, including construction of the controversial southwest border wall that was a centerpiece of President Trump’s campaign, reports The Washington Post.

He has previously served as the commanding general of the Multi-National Force-West in Iraq and as the commander of Marine Forces Reserve and Marine Forces North.

Department of Homeland Security was created in response to the September 11 attacks. (ANI)
