Sena targets Reliance, says co inflates electricity bills

Mumbai, June 24: The Shiv Sena on Wednesday staged protest at various places here against the tariff hike announced by power suppliers in the state including the Reliance Energy.

Sena workers torched a truck outside Reliance Energy office in suburban Kandivali, protesting the tariff hike.

“Wednesday’s agitation was the first such protest and if the power companies do not heed to our demand, we will intensify the agitation,” Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut said.

Meanwhile, party’s mouthpiece Saamana appealed to the consumers not to pay the “inflated” electricity bills.

“Reliance Energy, BEST, TATA and Mahavitaran are looting people with exorbitant electricity rates and Sena is protesting against these companies,” the paper said adding Maharashtra Government should intervene into the matter and stay the hike.

Police have detained a few prominent Shiv Sena leaders as a precautionary measure. Last week, party workers had stormed the Reliance Power office at Sata Cruz accusing it overcharging its customers. There was also a ruckus in the Maharashtra Assembly over the attack during Question Hour.
