Sena slams Naidu, blames Congress for irrigation policies

Mumbai, July 18: The Shiv Sena has slammed former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for trying to armtwist Maharashtra on the Babli barrage dispute. It also blamed the Congress for being inert on irrigation policies.

The Sena attributed political motives to Naidu’s agitation in Maharashtra. “He (Naidu) has woken up now because byelections are due for the 12 seats vacated by MLAs of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti,” an editorial comment in Sena’s mouthpiece Saamna said on Saturday. “The water belongs to Maharashtra but Andhra’s Chandrababu Naidu is doing Dadagiri.”

The Sena slammed the Congress for ignoring the irrigation requirements of the state for decades. It said the Maharashtra government had not been able to claim its share of water in multistate irrigation projects because of the snail’s pace of its irrigation policies.

The party also asked when would the former chief ministers of Maharashtra — who are in the Union Government — visit Karnataka on the Belgaum issue, like Naidu visiting Maharashtra on the Babli barrage row.
