Mumbai, November 13: In a veiled attack on the Shiv Sena and the MNS, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav Sunday said that North Indians in Mumbai were being attacked by “miscreants”.
“Some miscreants are raising the North Indians versus non-North Indian issues. They can’t be called politicians but only miscreants,” the Lok Sabha MP said, addressing a rally at suburban Sion this evening, ahead of the upcoming BMC polls in the city.
“These people are not well-wishers of the country. They are trying to weaken it. North Indians have also contributed largely towards making Mumbai a beautiful city and a financial hub,” he added.
Coming out in support of Muslims, Yadav said whenever any terrorist activity took place in the country, the needle of suspicion was pointed towards them.
“In every sector, people from the minority community are progressing. But if they are at looked at with suspicion the situation will deteriorate.
“We don’t raise issues related to Hindus and Muslims but those affecting the society and country,” he added.
Yadav said corruption was the reason behind the high inflation, which was badly effecting the poor and farmers.
SP MLA Abu Asim Azmi alleged that there was a lot of discrimination against the North Indians in the state.
“Many people from North India come here to earn their livelihood but are attacked by the activists of Shiv Sena and MNS.”
He further claimed that he was given less time to speak in the state Assembly as compared to other MLAs.
