Mumbai, April 19: Holding the Maharashtra Government squarely responsible for the bloodshed during the anti-Jaitapur Nuclear Power Project (JNPP) agitation in Ratnagiri district, Shiv Sena’s executive president Uddhav Thackeray on Monday night demanded Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan’s resignation.
“Finally the Maharashtra Government has contributed to the bloodshed in Jaitapur… Chief Minister should resign…We will not allow the sacrifice of Tabrej (who was killed in the police firing) to go waste. … Chavan’s DF Government will have to pay dearly for its mistakes,” Uddhav said in a statement here.
“The Jaitapur-project villagers were apprehending that their areas will one day turn into either Fukushima or Hiroshima if the State and Central authorities go ahead with executing the JNPP. But, even before the execution of the project could begin, the JNPP has already claimed one life. Tabrej’s is the first sacrifice in the anti-Jaitapur project agitation,” Uddhav added.
