ndhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham is oraganizing a seminar on “Women Farmers — Empowerment” at 10 am on March 8 here in connection with the International Women’s Day.
Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham State president Pasya Padma, in a press release here, has stated that several historians opined that women found cultivation practices first in this era. In rural areas, majority of women were cultivation the land and doing farm related works. She also claimed that they were fighting for recognition to the women farmers. She underlined the need to increase involvement of women farmers in formulating agriculture policies.
Referring to private Women Farmers Bill, which was pending in Parliament, Padma felt all political parties and organizations should fight and mount pressure on the Centre to formulate a policy for empowerment of women farmers in the country.
To mark International Women’s Day, the Rythu Sangham is holding a seminar on the empowerment of women farmers on March 8. Several leaders will attend the seminar and speak on the topic, he added. (NSS)
