Seminar on Ibn-e-Safi in Urdu University held

Famous Detective Fiction Writer of Urdu Ibn-e-Safi was remembered yesterday in a seminar conducted at Maulana Azad Urdu University in Hyderabad. The speaker were of the opinion that the immortal writings of Ibn-e-Safi linked younger generation with Urdu language and its civilization.

Prof. Syed Mujavir Husain Rizvi, former Head of the Dept. of Urdu of University of Hyderabad, in his address recalled that Ibn-e-Safi used to work as an honorary Editor of Urdu monthly magazine “Nikhath”. Mr. Abbas Hussaini’s father Mr. Hussain Hyder was its editor. He wanted to get a detective novel from Dr. Rahi Masoom Raza whereas on the insistence of Dr. Rizvi, Mr. Asrar Ahmed (Ibn-e-Safi) wrote a detective novel in a week. Dr. Rahi Masoom Razi could write only 12 pages during this period. Mr. Husain Hyder released a new Journal (Jasoosi Duniya) and published Ibn-e-Safi’s first novel “Dilair Mujrim”. He told that from August 1947 to August 1952, Prof. Rizvi and Ibn-e-Safi spent time together. The legendary character of “Jasoosi Duniya”, Col. Fareedy was carved out keeping in mind Dr. Abdul Jaleel Fareedi.

Dr. S.A. Shukoor, Director of Urdu Academy applauded the steps taken by Urdu University to organize a seminar on Ibn-e-Safi. Prof. Ahmedullah Khan, former Dean, Faculty of Law of OU, presented his key note address. Prof. Shaik Mohammed Rahmatullah, Registrar of Urdu University welcomes the guest. He told that in Osmania University, Engineering Education used to be imparted through Urdu Medium but Prof. Mohammed Miyan, Vice Chancellor of Urdu University started B.Tech Education through Urdu medium in this University. Prof. Mohammed Miyan, Vice Chancellor of Urdu University presided over the inaugural function of the seminar. Dr. Naseemuddin Farees, Head of the Department of Urdu introduced the guests. Dr. Irshad Ahmed presented vote of thanks. Prof. Mohammed Mahmood Siddiqui of the Dept. of Education conducted the meeting. Dr. Khaja Mohammed Shahid, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Urdu University was also present on the dais. Prof. Khalid Sayeed, Organizing Secretary of the Seminar highlighted the objectives of the seminar. The book on “Women’s Writings and Writings on Women ” containing the articles presented in the seminar conducted by Center for Urdu Language, Literature and Culture of Urdu University was released in the inaugural function.
