Selfie negligence: 17-year-old drowns while friends were busy clicking selfie

KANAKPURA: In what was another case of ‘selfie fever’ claiming lives, a 17-year-old student on Monday drowned in a pond near Karnataka’s Kanakapura, while his friends were busy taking group selfies.

The deceased has been identified as G. Vishwas, a student of National College in Jayanagar who went for trekking with 21 students.

Vishwas G, a resident of Hanumanthanagar, is a first-PU student at National College in Jayanagar.

Accompanied by a single professor, Vishwas along with NCC cadets students had gone for a college trip to Ramagondlu for a camp on Saturday .

The cadets got into the pond, which is reported to be 10 feet deep and started playing and taking selfies.

Reportedly, the incident came to light after Vishwas’ friends started searching for him and came across a picture that captured the boy drowning, while they struck poses for the camera.

After informing the team coordinator, they went back to the pond and found his body floating.

“Some students then went through the photos and saw one that had captured the incident,” said the teacher on the condition of anonymity.
