Hyderabad, March 09: The state will become self-sufficient in power by 2014 and have surplus power generation from 2017, AP Transco chairman and managing director Ajay Jain has said.
Speaking at a meeting of industry representatives, Jain said industry need not be worried as the power supply situation was better now than what used to be three or four years ago. He asked the power distributing companies (Discoms) of Transco to hold monthly meetings to sort out any technical problems.
In the next four years `600 crore will be spent on infrastructure development. To meet the demand in March and April, the government has agreed to buy 1,000 MW of additional power. He assured industrialists that load- shedding schedules, if any, would be intimated in advance.
CPDCL CMD MT Krishna Babu said the base load remained at 5,200 MW and if the demand went up to 5500 MW, one-day load shedding may become inevitable. Load shedding would not be due to non-availability of power but to transmission bottle-necks, he said.
