New Delhi [India]: When the whole nation is concentrating on the concept of skill development, author and educator Shiv Khera feels, “self development” is yet more important than “skill development.”
While speaking to ANI, here, about the recent education scenario and its outcome, Khera said, “ability without dependability is a liability.”
“In the Indian scenario, a huge stress is given to skill development and billions of dollars are going into it. You can do all kind of skill development you want, but nothing will happen till there’s self development. Eventually you have to develop your people. If you can’t depend on your people, then what use is this ability of? Ability without dependability is a liability.”
The ‘You Can Win’ author further highlighted the thin-line difference between the terms- “skill” and “competence,” saying, skill is ability and competence is the ability along with willingness and desire to do the job.
“There’s a difference between skill and competence. Skill is ability. Competence is the ability along with willingness and desire to do the job. There are many skill full people who are incompetent,” he explained.
Explaining the loopholes in our education system, the 55-year-old said that what we study in schools/colleges and what we face in the real world are two complete different things.
Hence, according to him, the institutions should be equipped well enough to grow a person to face the world “properly.”
“Our education system has literally failed us. 90 percent of what we learn in schools and colleges is of no use and 90 percent, which is required is not been taught. Hence there is a disconnect. The key is, our schools and colleges really ought to be institutions where a person is prepared completely, so that they can go out into the world and face it properly,” he said.
Finally, while speaking about his upcoming books, the ‘Freedom Is Not Free’ author shared a sentence from his upcoming book, that says, “A person with a positive attitude cannot be stopped and a person with a negative attitude cannot be helped.”
“I have couple of books in the pipeline, coming in the next three-four months. One of the major sentences in my next book says, ‘A person with a positive attitude cannot be stopped and a person with a negative attitude cannot be helped’,” he concluded. (ANI)
