There is no police station in the city where one cannot find a large number of decaying vehicles. The vehicles are either recovered from the possession of vehicle thieves or seized on committing crimes. Although the seized vehicles are in good condition at the time of seizure, they gradually turn into scrap at police stations.
Sources say that important parts of the vehicles are sold to mechanics at throwaway prices. A visit to the police stations revealed that there are piles of vehicles at every police station which includes vehicles set ablaze during 2010 riots to recovered stolen vehicles besides vehicles used for committing various crimes. Most of the vehicles have only the body while the machine parts are either stolen or sold to mechanics.
Police department should auction the scrap so that police stations remain clean from metal pollution. Gosha Mahal police stadium is presently said to have over 3000 vehicles which are in very bad condition.
