Bangalore, February 25: India’s bid to win the World Cup after 28 years received another severe jolt on Friday after swashbuckling opener Virender Sehwag sustained an injury during the team’s practice session.
Although the severity of the injury is yet to be ascertained, reports said that the batsman had to leave the session midway for some medical attention.
Sources present at the ground said that Sehwag got hit on his ribs off a Zaheer Khan delivery after which he did not take further part in the team’s practice session.
Earlier on Thursday, ace batsman Yuvraj Singh, too, had to leave the team’s practice session midway after getting hit by a delivery from pacer S Sreesanth.
Yuvraj sustained an injury on his left hand. However, sources said , the injury was a minor one and the southpaw had left for some medical attention as a precautionary measure.
India, who are one of the favourites to win the ongoing cricket World Cup, are struggling to cope up with injuries to some of their key players. Sachin Tendulkar also had to go for an MRI scan a few days earlier after he complained of uneasiness in his knee.
The ace batsman, however, was declared fit after the scan reports came out.
India are already without the services of pacer Praveen Kumar, who had to pull out of the tournament at the last minute after failing a fitness test.
India take on England in a crucial match at Bangalore’s M Channaswamy Stadium on February 27.
