Telangana Rashtra Samithi leader and Sircilla MLA K T Rama Rao has charged the government and Opposition parties with only paying attention to the cyclone losses suffered by farmers in the Seemandhra region neglecting Telangana.
Talking to the media at the Telangana Bhavan here on Tuesday, KTR lamented that Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Leader of the Opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu and YSR Congress chief Vijayamma had chosen to visit the Seemandhra region to inspect losses and deliberately forgot about the Telangana region. He said that Neelam cyclone destroyed crops in several lakhs of acres in Khammam, Karimnagar and Adilabad districts. He said that some 80 per cent of cotton crop worth several crores of rupees was lost.
The TRS leader bemoaned that none of these leaders had chosen to visit the Telangana region and console the farmers. The attitude of the Seemandhra leaders clearly showed that the former were treating the people of the Telangana as second rate citizens, he said, adding that Seemandhra leaders visit the Telangana region only for votes and not to stand by them in difficult times.
KTR has demanded that the government conduct a comprehensive survey on crop losses in the Telangana region immediately and render help to the people. Alleging that crop insurance was not being properly implemented, KTR alleged that the officials were harassing the poor farmers. (NSS)
