Rayalasseema leaders strongly pleaded for Rs.One lakh crore package for the overall development of the region before the UPA government takes any call for bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
A delegation of Congress leaders including MLAs and MLCs from the region led by Minister for Minor Irrigation Mr. T. G. Venkatesh are now in the national capital trying to meet the central leaders to espouse the cause of backward Rayalaseema. The main objective of the delegation was to impress upon the need for maintaining a status quo of the state. However if the formation of Telangana state becomes inevitable, the delegation stressed the imperative need for announcing a huge package for Rayalaseema on the lines of a grant announced for Sikkim.
The Rayalaseema leaders called on the Union Minister Mr. Vayalar Ravi, who is incharge of AP Congress affairs, and submitted a representation. During their meeting the leaders emphasized that the central government should announce a package for the region before any decision is taken for the formation of a separate Telangana state.
The leaders are planning to call on other senior leaders like the Home Minister Mr. Sushil Kumar Shinde and Union Finance Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram and make similar representation for a special package for Rayalaseema before bifurcating the state.(NSS).
