Seema-Andhra leaders decry ‘unilateral’ pact

Hyderabad, September 21: Stating that the State government’s written assurance/agreement to consider the demands of the Telangana advocates as ‘against’ the Constitution and Presidential Orders, the United Andhra Congress MLAs and MLCs Forum convener and government whip S Sailajanath today urged chief minister K Rosaiah to take steps to protect the Constitution and implement the Presidential Orders in respect of appointments of law officers in the High Court and tribunals.

A delegation of Congress MLAs and MLCs from Seema- Andhra led by Sailajanath today submitted a representation to the chief minister at the Secretariat before commencement of the cabinet meeting, requesting the latter to protect the Constitution and to implement the Presidential Orders, and to take steps for discussing the issue (of appointment of law officers) with all the stake holders (Seema-Andhra advocates and public representatives) concerned before implementation of the agreement reached with the Telangana lawyers.

They also submitted representations to other ministers requesting them to take a proper decision by discussing the issue at the cabinet meeting.

Talking to newsmen later, the government whip apprehended that there was scope that the ‘lawyers’ issue would give rise to several other problems in the state. “Our ministers and the chief minister are there to look into the issue raised by us. We are hopeful that there will be a proper response since we have belief in the Congress government and chief minister K Rosaiah,” he added.

Replying to a query, Sailajanath termed the Group of Ministers (GoM) decision to hold talks only with the Telangana Congress MPs and advocates and taking ‘unilateral’ decision on the latter’s demands as an ‘insult’ to the people of Seema-Andhra.

“In what capacity did MPs Madhu Yashki Goud and G Vivek participate in the discussions held by the government? We feel that the government’s decision not to invite us to the discussions is an insult to Seema-Andhra people,” he remarked.
