Burdwan (WB), February 10: Instead of seeking army’s deployment in trouble-torn Darjeeling Hills the state and central governments should rather involve GJM in the talk process, senior BJP leader Vankaiah Naidu said today.
“Will deploying army help in normalising the situation? There should instead be talk process between the Centre, state and GJM initiated by the government,” the former BJP President told reporters after a party rally here.
Naidu said he “empathised” with the aggrieved Gorkhas on the core issue of development or lack of it but did not elaborate.
The Darjeeling Lok Sabha seat is represented by BJP MP Jaswant Singh, who had been elected as independent candidate supported by GJM in 2009 Lok Sabha polls. Singh was later reinstated in the saffron party.
