The city police have cordoned off the area around Union Minister Bandaru Dattatraya’s residence in Ram Nagar here since Monday.
In the wake of view of Hyderabad Central University research scholar Rohith Vemula’s suicide on Sunday, members of Telangana Jagruti Yuva Morcha staged a protest outside Union Minister of State for Labour & Employment Bandaru Dattatraya’s residence in Ram Nagar area on Tuesday over the suicide of a Dalit scholar, who was expelled from the University of Hyderabad. Alleging that Dattatraya’s letter to Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani was responsible for suspension of five Dalit students and led to Rohit’s suicide, they raised slogans against both the Union ministers and demanded their resignations.
The Riot police rounded up several of the students and whisked them away to a police station. (NSS)
