Security guards walk away with 5 kilos of gold

Hyderabad, October 08: In a well planned burglary, security guards at a leading jewellery shop in the posh Banjara Hills tonight walked away with jewellery weighing nearly five kg and other valuables.

According to police, four men, all of them said to be security guards at Shankarlal and Sons jewellery store, which is located on Road No. 10, Banjara Hills, threatened its workers, brandishing lethal weapons, just when they were about to shut shop.

The quartet reportedly damaged CCTV cameras inside the showroom and attacked one of the staff members. The men picked up gold ornaments and valuable diamonds. Before they fled, they tied up all the workers. The theft was reported a few hours later. Hyderabad Police Commissioner AK Khan rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation.

The police suspect the involvement of security guards from Nepal and a former security guard, also from Nepal, in the incident.

The police sounded an alert and intensified checking and frisking in the city. They also alerted their counterparts in Nalgonda, Mahbubnagar, Nizamabad, Medak and other districts.

Khan announced a reward of Rs five lakh to anyone providing information on the burglars.
