Security guard electrocuted while trying to foil robbery bid

In a freak mishap, a 55-year-old security guard died after reportedly being electrocuted while trying to foil a robbery bid.

The incident happened at a shop on Sahara Estates Road at Panama Godowns under Vanasthalipuram police station limits in the wee hours of Tuesday. According to police, the guard, Dil Bahadur Bhandari, a resident of Hayathnagar, was posted at the Diamond Wines at Panama Godowns on Sahara Estates road, a couple of months ago. At around 4 AM on Tuesday, two men barged into the shop and tried to break open the door. They scaled the wall and tried to gain entry from the roof of the building.

Bhandari, who was on guard outside, rushed to the top floor and there was a scuffle between them, following which Sharma came into contact with a high-tension wire and suffered a massive electric shock. He died on the spot, the sub-inspector said.

However, the security guards’ death did not deter the robbers from making a second attempt. They struck at Meenakshi wines in the same building and decamped with a cash of Rs 20,000 and imported liquor bottles.

Police team examined the CCTV footages which showed the suspects walking in the building and strolling out of it with cash and imported liquor bottles. Based on a complaint lodged by the owner, a case has been registered. A manhunt has been launched to nab the culprits. Meanwhile the body of the guard has been shifted to Osmania Hospital for postmortem. Police registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC, according to Sub-Inspector S Devender, (INN)
