Hyderabad, May 06: Anticipating protests in support of MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, who survived a murderous attack by his rivals last Saturday, the Hyderabad city police is making tight security arrangements around Makkah Masjid tomorrow.
The condition of Akbaruddin Owaisi is stated to be improving. Sources said that eversince the MLA was attacked in Barkas last week, certain sections were angry with the police as well as their rival parties in the old city.
MIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi came down heavily on the city police saying they remained “mute spectators” while his brother was attacked. He also said that the police, instead of arresting the accused, were making them surrender and acted like ‘commission agents.’
Following inputs gathered by the city police from various sources which indicated that some sections were bent upon creating a trouble, security is being tightened around ld city for the noon prayers on Friday.
Three companies of Rapid Action Force (RAF), Task force teams and the entire force of south zone is being deployed around the mosque, where the turnout of Namazis is expected to be much higher tomorrow. Arrangements are also being made to keep ready more forces who could be summoned depending on the situation.
“Narebaazi (sloganeering) is what we are anticipating. We are prepared for anything beyond that,” police officials told Express. Besides Mecca Masjid, police pickets are being posted across all sensitive places in old city.
Meanwhile, on the instructions of the court, one of the accused in the attack on Akbaruddin, Abdullah, who was picked up from a corporate hospital yesterday, was admitted back to the hospital for treatment. He suffered a bullet injury on his chest.
Simultaneously, Chandrayangutta police inspector P Venkatagiri has been transferred as expected and was posted in the Counter Intelligence Cell. His superiors charged him with ‘failing to react immediately’ when Akbaruddin was attacked in his jurisdiction. In his place, another inspector, Venkat Reddy has been posted.
