Security beefed up for Assembly, Secretariat

Hyderabad, January 01: Anticipating protests in the wake of Justice Srikrishna Committee submitting its report, security is being beefed up at the Secretariat and the Legislative Assembly apart from the Raj Bhavan, the Chief Minister’s Camp Office and other major public and private properties.

The Border Security Force personnel took control of the security of the Secretariat and the Legislative Assembly today.

The State government reportedly sought over 100 companies anticipating a backlash in Telangana region after the submission of the Srikrishna Committee report. The Central government already sent 50 companies of central paramilitary forces to the state, including the Border Security Force, the Central Industrial Security Force and the Central Reserve Police Force. In all, 25 companies, each comprising 120 personnel, have been deployed in and around Hyderabad.

In view of repeated attempts by various organisations and political parties to lay siege to the Secretariat and the Assembly in the recent past, sources said the BSF personnel have been deployed to guard the entrances to these premises. While the regular security personnel of the Secretariat and the Assembly will be responsible for security inside the premises, the central forces will mainly guard outside the buildings.
