Secular Shazia Ilmi to campaign for BJP in Capital

Former AAP leader Shazia Ilmi will campaign against Kejriwal on a BJP ticket in the Delhi Assembly elections to be held on February 7.

Ilmi quit the AAP last year and had recently joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pet Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan.

Ilmi accused the party of lacking democracy within and its chief Arvind Kejriwal of cultivating cronies around him.

She had contested the 2013 Delhi Assembly elections from the RK Puram constituency and lost to BJP’s Anil Sharma by a thin margin of 326 votes.

Ilmi’s decision to campaign for the BJP brings about a sharp reaction from the Congress. “In a sting Shazia Ilmi wanted people to become communal, taking it a step further she joins BJP a party which believes in the same ideology,” Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi tweeted.
