Section 144 imposed in Hyderabad City in view of Babri Masjid demolition anniversary

City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma on Monday imposed Section 144 in the city in view of anniversary of demolition of Babri Masjid on December 6.

In the notification, the Commissioner claimed that reliable information has been placed before him that certain groups were trying to create disturbances affecting public peace and order in Hyderabad City and inciting communal animosity between different communities in connection with the anniversary of demolition of Babri Masjid.

Therefore, he said with a view to maintain public order, peace and tranquility in Hyderabad City, Section 144 was being imposed in the limits of Hyderabad City, except those expressly permitted by Police. He prohibited every kind of procession, dharna, rally or public meetings in the city. Any individual or groups of individuals have also been prohibited from making any speech, gesture or displaying pictures, symbols, placards, flags, etc., which is likely to create religious animosity or hatred between different communities or individuals or is likely to cause disturbance to the public peace and order.

Sharma warned that any person violating the above orders shall be liable for prosecution under the law.

The prohibitory orders under Section 144 will remain in force from December 5 to December 8.
