Let us introduce you to a person who is the secretary of a Masjid committee and has made it a profession to accumulate wealth. He is the secretary of the committee of an ancient and historic Masjid. According to Waqf record there are altogether 99 houses and shops under the Masjid. Since the secretary is an influential personality he has made, the president of the committee, his pawn. While the secretary collects exorbitant amount as rent of the houses and shops under the Masjid, just Rs 60 to 70 each shop, is paid to the Waqf board and the remaining goes in his own pocket.
It must be noted that the Masjid is surrounded by a majority of non Muslim population while there are several small and big graveyards in the area which are spread over 200 to 13000 sqyds. The graveyards are gradually being occupied by non Muslims. Before illegally occupying the graveyard land the encroachers reach secretary sahib and grease his palms to take possession of the land. Despite being the secretary of the Masjid, he avoids offering namaz.
Another person is the president of 3 masajid but does not offer namaz save Friday prayers. Locals are well aware of the fact that he can transform any Waqf property into his own property. He is an expert in colonizing new areas by doing plotting on Waqf properties.
