Hyderabad, January 31: As part of the National Immunisation Programme, as many as 6,01,358 children below five years will be administered polio drops here during the second phase of pulse polio immunisation programme to be held on Feb 7.
A total of 3,200 polio booths will be set up to administer polio drops to children aged between 0-5 years in the twin cities. In addition, 385 mobile teams are being pressed into service to cover children of migrated families, temples, gurudwaras, churches, mosques, marriage halls, construction sites, public parks, temporary settlements and markets.
The children who misses the drops will be covered by house-to-house visits of the teams from Feb 8 to 10.
Polio centres will also be operated at all transit points like railway stations and bus stations which will be working round-the-clock from the midnight of February 6 to the midnight of Feb 10.
No case of polio was reported in the State Andhra Pradesh in 2009.
In Hyderabad, the pulse polio programme is being taken up jointly by the District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
