Dr. Arvind Mayaram, Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India, has suggested Telangana government to increase the salary of Arabic scholars serving in Daeratul Ma’arif. On the occasion of his visit to Daeratul Ma’arif along with Union Minister Dr. Najma Heptulla, Dr. Mayaram expressed surprise over meagre salaries of Arabic scholars. He wondered when the scholars of other foreign languages are paid 30 to 40 thousand rupees then why is this discrimination with Arabic scholars? He lamented upon the meagre salaries of Arabic scholars who do the editing and proof reading of rare manuscripts. He stressed the need to pay attention towards the salaries of Arabic experts working in institution like Daeratul Ma’arif.
Dr. Mayaram urged state government to take immediate measures in this connection so that justice could be done to Arabic scholars. He suggested that Secretary Minority Welfare Telangana Syed Omer Jaleel should send a proposal to union ministry in this connection so that Union Minority Affairs Ministry could issue funds in this regard.
