The Telangana Government has informed that there were few takers for the four per cent seats reserved for Socially and Educationally BC Muslims (SEBCM) in Backward Classes Welfare Hostels.
According to the Principal Secretary of Backward Classes Welfare Department, the Group of Ministers, during its meeting held on 8th May discussed the issues in depth. Analysis of admissions in BC Welfare Hostels, based on data available with CGG, for the year 2013-14 reveals that as against the sanctioned strength of approximately 55,691 seats in the BC Welfare Hostels, only few were filled with the boarders belonging to Socially and Educationally BC Muslims (under Group-E) who got admission in the pre-matric hostels.
“Admittedly, there are no written tests for admission into the above Hostels. Yet, the four per cent reservation is not yet filled. This may be true for the previous years from 2007-08 onwards. The only reason could be the Socially and Educationally BC Muslims who are living both in the rural and urban areas are not aware about the same. Interestingly, even the BC Welfare Department could not do much in this regard. There is urgent need to fill the above four percent reserved seats amounting to at least 200 boarders,” the Principal Secretary said.
The Principal Secretary has requested the District Minority Welfare Officers (DMWO) in the districts and other NGOs including the Masjid Committee to ensure that 2,000 boarders from Socially and Educationally BC Muslims children/parents/guardians submit their applications to the nearest Hostels Wardens/Matrons. The list of Hostels may be obtained from the DD(BCW)/DBCWOs concerned. He requested to cooperate and mobilize the entire Minority Welfare Department and the socially and educationally BC Muslims as per G.O.Ms.No.16, BC Welfare (OP) Dept., dt.11.03.2015 to ensure that the poorest Muslims who are struggling for their livelihood get their children admitted in the BC Hostels during 2015-16 in the Telangana State.
