Seasoned hands to handle st udents

Hyderabad, December 07: About eight IPS officers, who had earlier worked in the city but are now serving in different wings of the Andhra Pradesh Police, are being roped in as part of the bandobust arrangements for the ‘‘Chalo Assembly’’ protest on December 10 planned by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Osmania University students.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner B Prasada Rao, who discussed the matter with DGP RR Girish Kumar, held a meeting with the eight officers here on Sunday.

The eight are — NV Surendra Babu (IG Octopus), AR Anuradha (Vigilance and Enforcement), VK Singh (IG Training), RP Thakur (IG, Rayalaseema region), Rajiv Trivedi (Additional Director, AP Police Academy), M Punna Rao (IG, CID), K Srinivasa Reddy (recently posted as DIG Warangal range but he has not yet taken charge there) and non-cadre SP B Sumati (CID). Prasada Rao would be holding another meeting with them on Monday.

More than one lakh students from all over the Telangana region are expected to join the rally. It would not be an easy task for the police to handle the crisis, particularly when the Assembly is on.
