(Siasat News) Consequent of the appointment of Prof. S. Satyanarayana, Vice Chancellor of Osmania University as Vice Chairman of A.P. State Council for Higher Education, search for a suitable candidate for the post of Registrar of Osmania University has been accelerated. This post has been vacant for the past (1) year. Prof. M.S.N. Reddy has been functioning as incharge Registrar for the past one year. When Prof. Satyanarayana assumes his new responsibilities, search for the post of permanent registrar has been accelerated. It is understood that the search committee has recommended (6) names for this post to the Executive Council of Osmania University shortlisted (3) names which includes Prof. Venugopal Reddy, Prof. Nageshwar Rao and Prof. S.A. Shukoor. Of the three one belongs to Reddy community, the second is S.C. and whereas the third one is from Muslim minority. Right from the inception of Osmania University, no Muslim candidate was appointment as Registrar. It is for the first time that the name of a Muslim candidate is under consideration for the post of Registrar of Osmania University. After Prof. Satyanarayana resumes his new duty, the responsibilities of the Registrar would increase as he would be the Chief Executive of the University. In the past (2) Muslim Vice Chancellor have been appointed after the independence of India. They were Mr. Syed Hashim Ali Akthar, IAS and Prof. Mohammed Suleman Siddiqui. If a Muslim candidate is appointed as Registrar, he will be the first Muslim Registrar of Osmania University.
